I’m the author of six books with Capstone Press including For the Right to Learn Malala Yousafzai’s Story (an ALA Amelia Bloomer nominee); Telling Tales: Writing Captivating Short Stories; A Primary Source History of the Dust Bowl (a Junior Library Guild selection); Choice Words: A Crash Course in Language Arts; All Dolled Up: Bringing 1920s and 1930s Flair to Your Wardrobe; and the forthcoming Orphan Trains.
I wrote assessment items for Center Point Assessment and have worked as an independent consultant training teachers in a curriculum writing program. In addition, I’ve taught for nineteen years from first grade all the way to college English. I currently serve as the Assistant Regional Advisor for SCBWI Cen-Cal and am the past president of Kern Reading Association (a CRA and ILA affiliate).
My strengths include writing narrative non-fiction and high-interest, voice-driven instructional materials. I’m creative, thorough and able to meet tight deadlines.
