I’ve been a freelance editorial consultant and author since 2003, helping publishers develop or update K-12 products and product lines in the areas of literacy, ELA, ELL, struggling readers, content-area reading, and bilingual. I help plan new products by taking on any or all of these tasks: preliminary research and competition analyses, meeting with stakeholders, writing and revising editorial prototypes, preparing editorial guidelines, and reviewing pages for adherence to the guidelines. I also take on writing and editing assignments for smaller pieces of large projects, Prior to going freelance I was editorial director of English language arts and Spanish language arts at Hampton-Brown (2001-2003), editorial director of bilingual programs at Pearson Scott Foresman (1998-2001), and a K-12 inhouse editor at Scott Foresman from 1987-1998.
